let's give you a live look outside at san francisco. a little foggy there. drizzly as we wrap up the last weekend of summer. thank you for joining us. i'm vicky nguyen alongside anthony slaughter standing by

with a look at the forecast. >> fog and drizzle outside this morning. i fired up the radar. you can see the green on the match. that is some of the drizzle in the lower levels of the atmosphere. we may see some of that reach the ground, especially over some of our area bridges. it's going to take a while for that fog to burn off today because we had rain a couple of days ago. that moisture-rich atmosphere is still in place. morning fog and clouds will be with us at least until the first half of the day. by this afternoon we are talking about hazy skies. you may notice some of that smoke. this is a picture from my apartment yesterday. you can see that off in the distance looking towards the east. because of that fire, we have moderate air quality across the board today. as we head toward wednesday and thursday, we are talking about our next chance of rainfall. we are excited about that. 74 in san francisco today. low 80s for our inland valley. we'll talk about the rain chance in our next report. >> we know you'll be all over it telling us when the rain will

fall. thanks, anthony. the nonsomething bay something is back. neighbors are bracing themselves for 20 nonstop hours of techno dance music. the beyond wonderland rage is roaring. the electronic dance party returns to shoreline this weekend with the harlequin acrobats and dancers dressed as animals. neighbors say the memories are too fresh from last year where the music seemed to be aimed in their direction. that is something organizers say has been fixed this year. >> they reworked the way the stages are angled. >> it was just crazy. >> it was piercing. piercing. i heard that dogs left their houses. >> mountain view police say last year's event resulted in 100

arrests and nearly 140 noise complaints. for those pet owners, keep your pets inside if you are concerned they may be scared by the noise. the event starts today at 1:00 p.m. and stretches through the entire weekend. two men accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a girl remain on the loose this morning. san jose police are asking for your help. take a good look at these two sketches of the suspect. the men are described as hispanic and in their 30s. police say they assaulted the girl on tuesday near the intersection of saratoga and campbell avenues. that's near west gate mall and prospect high school. police say the girl was waiting at a bus stop about 4:00 in the afternoon when the men forced her into a white van. they released her after the assault. >> friday night lights postponed. last night's football game was called off because of a bomb threat on campus. andrew hill was locked down late friday afternoon while the bomb squad searched the high school.

police secured the area. hundreds of students were evacuated to a nearby junior high. ultimately, the all-clear was given just before 5:00 p.m. a bizarre and brutal attack has left a community in shock. a man beaten to death at the gym where he worked out. in custody this morning, 46-year-old man. he was arrested on homicide charges after police say he picked up a steel gym bar at a bali total fitness and attacked another club member striking him on the head several times before leaving the scene. the victim is identified as 43-year-old diego galindo. he died from the injuries a day after the beating. officers arrested osako at a plumbing job site. >> very vicious. something -- i don't know why, you know? it's a question of why? >> just hope he give us a call and let us know what happened.

>> are you going to support him either way? >> no. if he's guilty, he's guilty. i don't support anybody that's wrong. >> investigators say there were several witnesses to the attack. they are now in the process of figuring out a motive and whether osako and golindo knew each other. churches are not immune to crime. a thief broke into st. anne's church and stole money intended for kids. this morning the suspect remains at-large. officers in union city say someone entered the parrish office through a window that was possibly unsecured and stole a box with at least $8,000 in cash and checks. the office had been locked at the time of the burglary. workers say the box contained funds from registration dues for the youth ministry program. that is a two-year curriculum aimed at high school students. >> it helps them in their own faith journeys. realize they have an important part to play in that.

we do a large program on community service. >> police tell us they are reviewing video footage from a surveillance system at the office. they are analyzing items that were recovered in the parking lot. >> the strategy might have backfired. nfl commissioner roger goodell finally broke his silence, but was immediately criticized by fans, players and women's organizations. he addressed the domestic violence firestorm but offered no immediate solution. >> i hold myself to the highest possible standards. so when i make a mistake or i don't get something right, it bothers me more than anybody. i think the owners have seen that in me. i think they know that we have always tried to do the right thing. mistakes happen. i'm sorry for that. we are going to get this right. >> the embattled commissioner announced the nfl will partner with different agencies that work with domestic violence and sexual assault. he was short on details, but big

on promise. >> once you lose trust and credibility with the people who are supposed to follow you as leader, once you lost that, it's gone and you need to go. >> goodell is establishing a conduct committee with a goal of having it in place by the super bowl. he has no intentions of stepping down. by the way, the super bowl is five months from now. the man accused of deliberately setting the massive king fire in the sierra made his first court appearance. wayne huntsman pleaded not guilty and prosecutors say additional charges could be filed depending on how many homes burned. we learned he may have broken into a home the moments after he started the fire and called 911 to report it. huntsman once lived in santa cruz. he moved to the eldorado county area. a police chief who transformed the bay area police department into one of the country's finest died. joe mcnamara died friday in his

sleep after battling pancreatic cancer. known as chief mack, he became san jose's top cop in 1976 and kept the role until he retired in 1991. among his many contributions, he diversified the police force and made san jose one of the first departments to aggressively use crime data to deploy officers and to use computers in patrol cars. during his tenure, san jose was one of the safest big cities in the country. joe macnamara was 79 years old. a scary situation at the white house. an intruder forces a rare evacuation. the stunning new details. also -- >> i said if you think i'm hysterical now, just wait. i will become your worst nightmare. then taking matters into her own hands, how a local mother on a mission managed to crack one of the largest financial fraud cases in the country.

let's give you a live look from our skycam rah networks. that is san rafael waking up to a few clouds. that will move out just a bit. weather cooler and anthony slaughter will be by with the full details. the white house was evacuated last night, but the first family was not there. a man jumped the fence, ran across the lawn and made it inside the white house. secret service agents took him down as he entered the north portico door. not clear why the man did it. agents say he was not armed. president obama and his daughters left on marine one a few minutes earlier. she has been dubbed the erin brokovitch of the financial world for fighting a scheme that bilked americans out of billions of dollars. she spent years turning her pain into passion. today in the bay, stephanie

trong has the story of a mom on a mission. more than $26 million in six years. that's how much one company defrauded 2,000 victims across the country. that is until it came across ingrid robinson who on her own was able to topple a financial giant that was illegally charging people desperately in need of money. all the work she did from her house. for a mother on a mission, this was the promise land. >> when michelle died, everything went to hell in a handbag. >> on this barren property in clear lake, california, she hoped to develop an upscale luxury town home community. >> i renamed it michelle's diamond after my daughter. >> reporter: but first ingrid robinson needed $100,000 to kick start michelle's diamond. a broker referred her to the remington financial group based out of phoenix in philadelphia. >> remington said we love this

project so much, we want to invest the whole $5 million to develop it. next thing i know, i received a contract from remington saying they wanted $10,000 upfront to doo their due diligence. >> reporter: she would be one of nearly 2,000 people to get the same request from remington. the company would send out letters of interest indicated it had lenders prepared to fund and touting an 80% success rate securing the money. so long as the persons filled out the forms and paid an upfront fee of up to $25,000. with cash in hand, remington would find flaws in the proposed project, but not before sending out one last message. >> an e-mail that says, "we regret to inform you" they're not going to fund the project. no reason why. we are just not going to fund it. >> reporter: the federal investigation revealed employees knew exactly what they were doing. one complained he was getting a pit in his stomach deceiving clients. sensing something wasn't right,

ingrid called remington. in place of answers, she got insults. >> i said if you think i'm hysterical now, just wait. i will become your worst nightmare. took me seven years, but i kept my word. >> reporter: that meant doing her own digging, discovering hundreds of other victims across the u.s. >> i, myself, probably found over 600 victims in about three or four months. >> reporter: she took her findings to the fbi. seven years later, her patience was rewarded with huge results. all six remington principals convicted of fire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering, including president and ceo andrew bogdanoff seen here on this linkedin profile page sentenced for more than 18 years behind bars in prison.

your time now 7:17. you are looking live at downtown san jose. you can see a bit of a haze. some smoke in the air from the king fire. anthony slaughter will be here to tell you how the rest of the day is shaping up. it was a rock star surprise for hundreds of apple fans who camped out for the new iphone. apple ceo tim cook opened the doors at the palo alto store yesterday, stopping for customers and their selfies. lines formed here all over the bay area and over the world. everyone wanted to be among the first to power up their new iphone. >> i came from norway for this, visiting two weeks. i timed this very well. >> apple eventually had to break the bad news to some fans in line when the phones ran out, telling them it was time to go. >> the bad news not as bad as this. it was the fall heard around the world for iphone fans. the first person who bought the

iphone 6 in australia dropped his precious purchase and it was caught on live tv. >> all right. we are doing the unveil. ouch. i've been there, done that. not with a brand-new phone or gadget out of the box, but you know, the first time you drop it, you never forget that device. the customer picked it up, rubbed the screen and fortunately, all is good. you've been there? >> yeah. that's why i have a cover for it. >> tell us what the weather is going to be like. is it going to be slick or sticky with that humidity? >> it is going to be humid the first half of the day. we have that moisture-rich atmosphere in place because of the rain showers we saw a couple of days ago. that lift allowing to squeeze out some of the final leftover residual moisture we have left in our atmosphere. you know what? this is all just because, like i said, we saw that rain and

overnight our winds started to shift. in fact, our winds were coming more from the ocean overnight. we had the strong onshore push. that is what allows for a lot of this fog to inundate. once the sun comes up, we are talking about winds shifting. in the upper levels of the atmosphere we have an area of low pressure. this thing is to our south. because it's to our south, you have winds around it that are counterclockwise. it's going to be happening throughout the day. this is our king fire and there are our winds at about 20 to 30,000 feet in the atmosphere, upper level lows going to push some of that this way. at the surface, we have winds pushing onshore. we have the fog in place right now. look at these temperatures. close to 70 in the east shore. even low 60s in the south bay. san francisco waking up to mid 60s. because that fog is going to be in place for most of the morning, san francisco, you are only going to get up to 74 today. 75 the east shore. our warm places will be the

inland valleys, south bay 84 today. the tri-valley will be close to 90 once again. the north bay, you'll be back into the low to mid 80s. not a bad weekend shaping up, especially our final weekend of summer. if you are looking for things to do across the bay area, in san jose, coyote creek there is a clean cleanup from 9:00 through this afternoon. plenty of sunshine in san jose. san francisco will stay fogged in until about noon. then our sun goes down around 6:00, 7:00. because of that, once the sun starts to go over the horizon, we'll start to see that fog push back in. it will be limited sunshine at the coast today. because of that, we are only expecting temperatures to be back in the lower 70s. we've been telling you all about our next chance of rain. here is the set-up. monday there will be a system to our west that will brush the coastline. this is going to move north. what it will do monday and tuesday, cool us off and allow for that onshore wind to return.

here comes our next system. this is going to bring us rain wednesday night. we'll see clouds start to increase and our first showers will actually start in the north bay and right down towards the santa cruz mountains. then wednesday night into thursday morning. kind of like what we saw this past week. we'll see a repeat of that. overnight showers. the ground will probably be wet on thursday. we are only expecting light amounts. in the santa cruz mountains, 3/4 inch. we could see a repeat of that happen wednesday and thursday. this is excellent news for all of us here across the bay area. especially for that drought we've been telling you about. you'll notice that final stretch of summer does keep things average. you'll notice this weekend it's going to be warm. then we start to fall off as the storm systems start to move this way. yes, we have rain in the forecast. you can see that here in san francisco. computer didn't like that too much. there we go. there is the rain. wednesday in san francisco. most likely after sun set in

was diagnosed with leukemia. kaiser permanente would become the home away from home. it was something they were begin the very first night that stuck with darren. a care package of snacks for new patients and their families thanks to an anonymous donor. >> it was the coolest thing that somebody you don't know is thinking about you. so i got to thinking at that point, what could i do? i paint. so i figured, that's what i can do. >> and that is just what darren did. he took three weeks off from his job at the water treatment plant and working day and night, covered an entire wall and the ceiling of the pediatric family waiting area.

good morning. we'll give you a live look out at san jose. little hazy out there let's take you over to the golden gauge bridge and show you what it looks like. socked in by fog. a classic look at the golden gate bridge. that fog will move out later today. thanks for joining us, i'm vicky nguyen alongside weatherman anthony slaughter standing by with a look at the micro climate forecast. >> good morning. gray skies everywhere right now. that's going to be the case for the first half of the day we have this moisture-rich atmosphere in place because of the rain we saw a couple of days ago. that onshore wind inundating towards the delta, tri-valley and south bay. as we head through the day today, it is going to be foggy and cloudy at least the first half of the day. our sunrise around 7:00. we are talking about hazy skies.

the cpuc had an unethical relationship with pg&e. they say regulators were too cozy with the company. regulators say this is one example of many. >> we've just seen what happened with pg&e. >> my feeling is this happened with every utility. that's what needs to be investigated. >> hill added he wants cpuc president removed by the governor. so far, that has not happened. his term is up at the end of the year. pg&e fired three high-level employees this week due to improper communications with cpuc officials. some san jose city workers may be spending your tax dollars on personal luxuries. that's the conclusion of a new city audit. they found some san jose workers had questionable purchases on their city-issued credit card. one department purchased computer tablets without proper approval. turns out the tablets were not supported by the city's ip department. the audit found an employee

rented a new bmw for more than two weeks after their personal car was totalled. >> in one case, the wine tab totalled more than $700 for a dinner for two dozen workers. overall, the audit found most workers are following city spending policies. the future of san francisco light rail is just around the corner. yesterday san francisco's board of supervisors approved a $648 million contract to replace all of the current muni light rail vehicles with more reliable and efficient cars. but you will have to wait a while to ride one of these futuristic railcars. they won't be ready for public use until late in 2016. san francisco mayor ed lee says these new muni cars will help give san francisco a world class transit system. according to sfmta, this is one of the biggest light rail agreements in the history of the united states. bad weather caused alon musk

space company to delay its rocket launch overnight. heavy winds and rain forced the directors to scrap the launch. the trip will be the fourth spacex cargo mission to the space station about 260 miles above earth. spacex will deliver 2.5 tons of supplies to help with nasa's expedition. the launch has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 4:53 a.m. much more ahead on "today in the bay." >> the giants try to gain ground in the national league west. a's continue their fight.

going to be warm this last summer weekend. the a's needed a win last night. philadelphia phillies in town for the last interleague series of the year. bottom of the second, two on for derek north. he singles to right to give oakland a 1-0 lead. that wasn't all. two batters later, cocoa crisp getting a great bounce off the ground making it 3-0. they would make that early lead stick and move back into the top wild card spot. they win 3-1. to petco park. giants and padres. this one got away from san francisco early. san diego scored four runs in the first inning off tim hudson. they never looked back. the g-men get shutout in southern california. they stay on top of the wild card standings, but fall 3 1/2 games behind the dodgers with the division lead. much more ahead on "today in the bay." we investigate a sophisticated scheme. how crooks used linkedin to

welcome back now. the time 7:44. we are looking at this drizzle and fog on our map right now. you can see the green. that's because we had rain a couple of days ago. now we are still trying to get rid of some of this moisture in our upper level of the atmosphere. overnight we had winds. they were onshore. what i want to bring your attention to is the king fire. what we have happening, there is an area of low pressure in the upper levels about 20,000 to 30,000 feet. it's just to our south. science and theory tells us that the areas of low pressure, they rotate. the winds around them have winds that come counterclockwise. so as we head through the day today, because of this area of

low pressure to our south and the winds around it, we are going to look at haze. even some smoke drifting into the bay area here is a better way to see it. you can see from our time lapse. the fog is going to be in the lower part of your screen there. you can see some of the darker clouds atop that. that's about 20,000 to 30,000 feet in the atmosphere. that it's haze and the smoke we are going to be looking at through the day today. we have moderate air quality in effect. little science lesson this morning. gray skies across the board right now. it won't be until noon till we start to clear out in san francisco, pacifica and half moon bay. we'll start to see sunshine around 9:00, 10:00. temperatures going to be warm. 80s with the exception of the peninsula and the east shore of san francisco. that's where you see 70s. it will be warm in the tri-valley. close to 90. it may have you thinking about the beach. monterey to bodega bay, 70s across the board today.

through tomorrow, we are going to be looking good. sunday, temperatures come down just a little bit in certain locations. back into the 60s in bodega bay. it's because we are setting the stage for our next storm system. monday and tuesday, storm system to our north is not going to bring rain. it will increase our onshore wind. that will cool us a great deal. as we head towards wednesday, skies will cloud up. then wednesday night into thursday morning, that's when we are going to see our best chance of shower activity. this last week we had about 3/4 inch in the santa cruz mountains. we could see a repeat of that happening this upcoming week. overall, doesn't look like a huge storm system. inland valleys will only see about a few 0.01 inch. enjoy this weekend. it will be warm. talking about 80s in our inland valleys. 70s at our local beaches. >> thank you. still to come on "today in the bay," a bay area veteran fleeced after weeks of training and a face-to-face interview. next, we investigate a
